Bruno de Sá (male soprano)
Wrocław Baroque Orchestra
Artistic director and performing on cello: Jarosław Thiel
Bruno de Sá, an extraordinary and celebrated performer, is a male soprano, which is the rarest vocal type in the world. It is not the same as a countertenor, as it encompasses a greater vocal range, essentially corresponding to that of a lyric soprano. Most compositions written for male sopranos were created in the 18th century when it was customary to feature castrati on the opera stage. This vocal type didn’t completely disappear in the following century, with performances by male sopranos traceable until the late 1800s. The exceptionally talented Brazilian singer, gifted with unique vocal abilities, will perform both sacred and secular works from the classical repertoire of the last great era of castrato singers, including pieces by Mozart and Cherubini. He will be accompanied by Poland’s leading historical orchestra, the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, founded in 2006.
Listen to the programme of the concert on the artist’s newly released album Mille affetti.
