Dániel Szabó Quintet
Presented by Liszt Academy
A selection of compositions by Dániel Szabó, from the album Intersections, released in America, and new pieces composed since then
Dániel Szabó (piano, compositions), János Ávéd (saxophones, flute), Kristóf Bacsó (saxophones, clarinet), Marcell Gyányi (double bass), László Csízi (drums)
Jazz pianist and composer Dániel Szabó divides his creative life between Hungary and California, collaborating over the years with such world-renowned artists as Peter Erskine, Chris Potter, and Joe LaBarbera. His album Visionary topped charts in the American jazz magazine JAZZIZ, and in spring 2022 he was invited to perform the finale of Chick Corea’s Jazz Piano Concerto posthumously, alongside John Patitucci and Dave Weckl. The core of this concert program features pieces from Intersections, an album Szabó recorded in Los Angeles with his American colleagues. This time, however, the music will come to life through the interpretation of Hungarian musicians, enriched by several new compositions written since the album’s release. The members of the Szabó Dániel Quintet – János Ávéd, Kristóf Bacsó, Marcell Gyányi, and László Csízi – are some of the most accomplished musicians of the Hungarian and international jazz scenes, and building on their musical individuality, they add new colors to the pieces. Their collaboration promises a night of complex rhythms, lush melodies, modern harmonies, and electrifying improvisations.
